396 Erskine Road house was built for Henry and Katherine Lauterstein in 1958 , and it's been in the family ever since. The Lautersteins loved the nature, the arts, opera, traveling and entertaining. Here is what one of the family members said:
"I’m lucky to have grown up at 396 Erskine Road.
Living in the same house has given me a sense of self and place that is unique in today’s mobile world. It’s been an anchor. I have happy memories of my Mother’s festive Holidays and seeing my children swim in the pool. I also can honestly say that sitting on the back deck in the summer still remains one of my favorite places to be.
I’m not the first generation to have grown up on Erskine Road. My Father also grew up here - just down the road from 396. His parents gave my Mom and Dad the land they built their house on as a wedding present. My Dad knew all the trails for hiking, and the names of all the birds, the trees, and wild flowers.
To grow up surrounded by such beautiful land was heaven. In the summer, my sister and I spent many happy days playing in the woods, making forts in the rocks, and watching the wildlife - the birds, chipmunks, otters, and the fox. During the winter we would sled down the hill in the front of the house all the way down to the pond. There was so much to do outside every season.
I hope you enjoy 396 Erskine Road as much as I have."
