Additional Japanese elements of design are present in the entrance area: tiled floor, a bench for removal of shoes, exposed beams and Shoji-style screens that softly partions the foyer from the living room.
The first room off the entry hall/foyer is the living room. It is relaxing, warm and inviting. The owners surrounded themselves with objects they loved, found in their travels and were comfortable with. The mix of mid-century modern furniture, art, old and new American furniture and playful objects is remarkable.
A Nakashima coffee table is adorned by two English old vases.
Whimsical and interesting looking objects are placed elsewhere in the living room. The room has 9'+ ceilings, beams, a clerestory window and sliding doors to the courtyard's welcoming porch. A large, floor to ceiling fireplace made of bricks is right next to the Shoji-style screens that separate this living room to the entrance hallway. Fully open to the dining room that has floor to ceiling windows, the entire space is light-filled and conducive to family life and entertaining.

In the dining room, beautiful Nakashima table and chairs are paired with a William and Mary style sideboard, French sconces and mirrors. An original carousel horse with intricate jeweled trappings stands tall in the family room beside the Nakashima tansu which stores silverware and other dining serving pieces.
Facing the tansu, on the opposite end of the room by the open kitchen counter there is a country French style cupboard. Sliding doors open to the informal, serene back deck that overlooks the grounds. Extensive use of glass, open design concepts, multiple sliding doors to the outdoors and many views to be enjoyed forge a strong connection with nature on this property.
